LH Research Inc. was an American manufacturer of switching power supplies. Founded in 1976 by Lawrence Lee and Wally Hersom, the company specialized in the development and manufacturing of switching power supplies for computers, servers and mainframes. Most notably use of an LH Research power supply is the "Mighty-MITE MM 72, 375-Watt" - supply in the Xerox Alto Computer. Furthermore LH Research - power supplies have been installed in many Silicon Graphics computer models, for example in the 1988 "Professional IRIS" Workstation. Also notable is the use of three 1000 watts "Super-MITE SM 11" supplies in the Convex C1 Vector Minisupercomputer.[1]
Facing rapidly growing domestic and foreign competition in the early 1990's, the company was acquired by Charter Power Systems[2], which itself went bankrupt on June 1, 2000.[3]
The company Pioneer Magnetics in New Jersey subsequently took over the intellectual property and offers a supply of replacement power supplies.[4]
