NTS Co., Ltd. is a Japan high-precision prototyping and production metalworking company.

Company

The company was originally founded in July 1970 by chairman Katsumi Namatame in Asakawa, Fukushima Prefecture. The company was upgraded to a limited liability company in 1988 under the name Namatame Seisakusho, later to Namatame Seisakusho Co., Ltd. In 2002, control of the company was turned over to Namatame's son Masahiro and the company name shortened to the current NTS Co., Ltd.[1]

NTS works in high-precision manufacturing of metal components for prototyping and low-volume production in the aerospace, medical, motorsport, and marine industries. NTS engages in 'traditional' computer-controlled metalworking (milling, turning, etc.) as well as additive manufacturing of metal components.[2]

Motorcycle racing

In the mid-2010s, Masahiro Namatame expressed interest in entering motorcycle racing as a constructor in the Moto2 category as a way "to enhance our production know-how, techniques, and quality control in order for NTS to lead the industry by taking a step further to offer our clients with higher satisfaction".[3]

Beginning in 2014, NTS had a few sporadic wildcard entries in various rounds in the FIM Moto2 World Championship, primarily at the Japanese Grand Prix. In 2016, NTS received approval from the FIM for their Manufacturer's License and entered full season entries in the Spain CEV Moto2 European Championship.[1] The manufacturer achieved near immediate success in 2016, with their sole rider Alan Techer finishing 3rd in the championship with an identical results record to 2nd place finisher Tetsuta Nagashima, but losing out on countback through pole positions won. 2017 was again a strong year for NTS, with new rider Steven Odendaal repeating the 3rd place finish.

After two years of relative success, NTS decided to abandon their CEV Moto2 programme in favour of a full-season effort in the Moto2 World Championship starting in 2018, partnering with Dutch racing team RW Racing GP.[1] The increased competition of the world championship proved more difficult, with the team only achieving 4 points finishes during the season, ultimately finishing 16th out of 18 entries and with NTS in last place of the manufacturer's standings. The 2019 season also proved difficult, with the team only managing to better their record to 7 points finishes on the season, 15th out of 18 teams and again last place in the manufacturer's standings.
