OneSignal is an American cloud-based software company based in San Mateo, California, with offices in New York, London and Singapore.[1] The company provides a customer engagement platform used by mobile-focused businesses for multichannel marketing. OneSignal provides customer engagement technology for companies of all sizes, such as Zynga, Eventbrite, Bitcoin.com, USA Today, Beach Bum Games, KyivStar, Tribune Publishing, Randstad, Nexstar, and Ten Square Games.

History

OneSignal was co-founded as Hiptic Games, a mobile games studio, in 2011 by Y Combinator alumni George Deglin and Long Vo. Deglin and Vo couldn’t find a good notification tool to engage their players and as a result, the founders pivoted the product to GameThrive push notifications, launching in 2014.[2]

In April of 2015, the company rebranded as OneSignal and raised $2M in seed funding from Rakuten Ventures, Y Combinator, and angel investors including Justin Kan and Zack Coelius.[3]

In August of 2017, OneSignal raised $7 million in Series A funding led by SignalFire to focus on expanding its web push, mobile push, and in-app messaging functionally.[4]

In 2018, OneSignal launched Email services followed by SMS in 2020, and repositioned itself as an omnichannel customer engagement platform.[5][6] Soon after, OneSignal rolled out Journeys, functionality that allowed customers to create and automate personalized cross-channel customer journeys.[7]

OneSignal partners with many popular SaaS companies, including HubSpot, Google Cloud Platform, and Unity.[8][9][10] HubSpot made a $1 million investment in OneSignal in April of 2021, citing the increasing importance of integrated customer messaging.[11]

In September of 2022, BAM Elevate headlined a $50 million Series C funding round with participation from SignalFire and other existing OneSignal investors to fuel the company’s continued expansion.[12] A few months later, OneSignal extended its Series C with a strategic investment from ServiceNow Ventures.[13]

As of mid-2023, 60% of companies using web push notifications use OneSignal.[14]

Awards

In 2022, OneSignal was named the Best App Engagement Platform by Business of Apps, the Best SaaS Product for Loyalty and Retention by the Saas Awards, and was named to the Deloitte Technology Fast 500™.[15][16][17]
