PROGNOZ is a privately held company based in Perm, Russia that develops business software.[1] The company’s software is commonly categorized in the business intelligence or business process management market segments.[2]
In addition to its headquarters in Perm, PROGNOZ has offices in Beijing, Brussels, Moscow, and Washington.[1] The company name derives from the Russian word for “forecast.”[3]
History
PROGNOZ was founded as the result of a Soviet-era collaboration between the Russian Academy of Science and the Ministry of the Economy. In 1987, a team of economists and scientists from the Academy’s Institute of Economics gathered at Perm State University to conduct a series of economic forecasting projects for the Ministry. Four years later, after the establishment of the Russian Federation opened the national economy, one of these economists, Dmitry L. Andrianov, founded PROGNOZ to address the need for business software that analyzed and forecast economic information. (Andrianov continues to serve as PROGNOZ’s CEO today). A year later, in 1992, PROGNOZ introduced the PROGNOZ Analytical Suite, a software application for statistical analysis and econometric modeling, and a predecessor to the PROGNOZ 5 Platform. In 2001, PROGNOZ expanded its operations from Perm and opened an office in Moscow. This expansion continued in 2006 with offices in Beijing, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Kiev and other locations.[4]
Since 2012, Gartner, Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, has included Prognoz in the Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms* report. Since 2015, Gartner, Inc. has included Prognoz in the Magic Quadrant for Advanced Analytics Platforms** report.
Products
The company’s main software application is the Prognoz Platform. The Prognoz Platform is a cutting-edge BI platform for building information systems. It can also be used as a standalone product. Prognoz Platform organizes and analyzes business and macroeconomic data, and can create econometric models based on datasets.[5] Most of standard and custom solutions are built on top of this platform.
