RemoFirst is an American SaaS HR tech startup Employer of Record (EOR) company based in San Francisco, California. The company provides international hiring and payroll services for businesses, ensuring adherence to local labor laws for employees and contractors worldwide. RemoFirst's customers have included Microsoft, BCG, and Mastercard.[1]
History
RemoFirst was founded in 2021 by Nurasyl Serik and Volodymyr Fedoriv, who met in the United Kingdom at the University of Surrey. [1] Prior to co-founding RemoFirst, Serik and Fedoriv established other remote-first startups together.[1] Serik also previously worked as a product manager at Job Today, where he led the division that built out payroll in the UK.[2]
In early 2021, RemoFirst raised a $275,000 pre-seed round, followed by $14.1 million in Seed funding in September 2022, which was co-led by fintech investors Mouro Capital and QED Investors, with participation from Counterpart Ventures.[3]
RemoFirst raised $25 million in Series A funding in March 2024, led by Octopus Ventures, with continued investment from QED, Mouro Capital, and Counterpart Ventures.[4] Nicholas Sando from Octopus Ventures also joined the RemoFirst board in 2024.[5]
In 2024, Serik and Fedoriv were both named to Forbes 30 Under 30 for Enterprise Technology.[1] RemoFirst was ranked 129th on Newsweek’s list of the Top 200 America’s Most Loved Workplaces for 2024 [6] and also appeared on Inc.’s list of Best Workplaces 2024.[7]
Products
RemoFirst provides a software platform for companies to hire remote international workers and contractors by acting as the official Employer of Record — managing the payroll, taxes, compensation plans, health insurance, and compliance for local employees in each country where it operates.[3]
As of March 2025, RemoFirst operates in more than 180 countries.[4] The company maintains compliance by partnering with local legal experts to ensure adherence with labor laws and regulations.[8] Its platform also allows companies to manage and pay independent contractors in more than 150 countries, supporting payments in over 50 currencies, with automated Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance checks incorporated into the platform’s contractor payment system.[9]
Other offerings by RemoFirst include assistance with visa and work permit applications in more than 85 countries [10] and a white label and reseller partner program that enables businesses to integrate and offer RemoFirst’s services under their own brand.[11]
