SEW (Smart Energy Water) (formerly Smart Utility Systems) is a multinational corporation headquartered in Irvine, California. SEW is a privately held product company and employs over 1450+ people in 45+ countries.[1]

The company is a provider of AI-Powered platforms that include Digital Customer Experience (CX) and Workforce Experience (WX) for global energy, water, and gas, e-Mobility and telecommunication service providers.

SEW's geographic presence includes US, Canada, Jamaica, Colombia, Brazil, Ireland, United Kingdom, Portugal, Luxembourg, Germany, Hungary, South Africa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Australia.

It also has operations in Irvine, Dallas and Las Vegas in the United States, and in Noida and Bangalore in India.

History

SEW was founded by Deepak Garg[2] in 2012.[3] SEW launched SmartBX (Business Experience) platform in 2014.

In June 2015 SEW built solutions on SAP Multichannel Foundation for Utilities and Public Sector to enhance customer engagement.[4]

In 2015 SEW introduced SmartIX platform with analytics capabilities for utility teams, including water analytics capabilities around drought prevention and water conservation.

In January 2016 SEW opened new offices in Irvine.[5] In February 2016, SEW partnered with Planet Water Foundation.[6]In July 2016, SEW received the Smart Grid Product of the Year Award.[7]

In 2018 Simply Energy became SEW's first customer in Australia, followed by Waterscan in the United Kingdom and UGI International in Europe.

In 2019 the company introduced products like solar, eMobility solutions, smart chatbots, carbon footprint, and governance.

In March 2019 SEW entered into a global partnership with Choice Energy. In April 2019, SEW signed a multimillion dollar global collaboration agreement with Microsoft.[8]

In October 2019 SEW and SAP joined hands to deliver SEW's Digital Customer Experience Platform for the Global Utility Industry. In November 2019, SEW and Bridgewater Consulting Group entered into global partnership to strengthen and grow SEW's platform implementation.[9]

In July 2020, SEW entered into a partnership with Amazon Web Services.[10]

In August 2020 SEW partnered with Tech Mahindra, PwC and Accenture to accelerate digital transformation for Energy and Water Utility Industry.[11]

In September 2020 the company received the 2020 Utility Industry Spotlight Awards for Global Customer Innovation.[12] In May 2021, SEW entered into a global alliance with Cyanconnode Holdings PLC.[13]

In 2021 SEW entered into global strategic alliance with Deloitte.[14]

In February 2022 'My Tata Power' unified SEW's SmartCX Mobile App launched by Odisha Discoms in India.[15] In September 2022, SEW forged a partnership with Util-Assist to deliver system integration services to clients implementing SEW's platforms.[16]

In November 2022 SEW established a partnership with Siemens Smart Infrastructure to support utilities globally to improve the customer and workforce experiences for utility smart meter users.[17]

SEW acquired 3Insys, provider of Utility Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) system integration, data integration, identity management, API management.

In March 2023 SEW entered into a partnership with Utility Solutions Partners (USP).[18] In July 2023, the company opened new headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.[19]

In September 2023 legend Kapil Dev, world cricketer and former Indian World Cup team Captain joined the Executive Advisory board at SEW.[20]

In October 2023 SEW announced its acquisition of GridExchange, a Transactive Energy platform, from Alectra Utilities Corporation.[21]

In February 2024 the company announced the opening of its new office in Dallas, Texas, United States. In April 2024, SEW opened the new office in Greater Noida, India.
