Skyryse is a private company headquartered in Los Angeles, California. It develops hardware and software that is incorporated into aircraft, originally the Robinson R44 helicopter,[1][2][3] to automate piloting controls.[4]

Skyryse was founded by Mark Groden in 2016.[5] It was in stealth mode until August 28, 2018, when it started test flights in Tracy, California.[3][5][6] It became known for[7] its work with the city of Tracy to transport first responders, like medical personnel and firemen, to emergencies with technology equipped helicopters.[1][6] By this time, Skyryse had raised $18 million in venture capital funding.[1][2] It raised another $20 million in 2019[8] and $200 million in 2021 led by Fidelity Asset Management and Monashee Investment Management.[8] In 2019, Skyryse started another test, transporting passengers from Los Angeles, California to Orange County.[7][9]

Skyryse initially intended to develop a service operating its own helicopters using their technology. However, now it focuses solely on selling its piloting technology to aircraft manufacturers and operators.[4][8][9] Skyryse replaces traditional aircraft controls with a touch-screen, joystick, and a fly-by-wire system.[4]

Skyryse has announced two commercial partnerships, the first with Robinson Helicopters to integrate FlightOS into the R66,[10] and the second with Air Methods. Air Methods will be retrofitting 400 aircraft with FlightOS.[11]
