Company:Worldcoin
From HandWiki
Worldcoin is a cryptocurrency company founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania[1]. The company wants to provide "infrastructure" for a cryptocurrency that could be eventually used for distributing universal basic income on a global scale[2]. The company developed a device called "The Orb" which scans people's iris to potentially establish proof of unique personal identity (proof of personhood). Since the start of it's operation, it has been criticized for unclear communication with the public, especially in developing countries [3][4]. The start-up has attracted investors with its promise to scan over a billion of people by 2023[5]. The launch of the currency was promised for the beginning of 2022 but has been "seriously delayed" [6].
