Snowy Owl (Xue-Xiao or Xuexiao 雪枭) I is a Chinese experimental UAV developed by Beijing Information Science and Technology University Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Technology Research Association (UAVA, 北京信息科技大学无人航空器技术研究协会) of Beijing Information Science & Technology University. Snow Owl I is unique among Chinese UAVs in that for a fixed-wing UAV with conventional layout, it has most numerous engines installed, totaling four. The reason for having four engines is because Snow Owl I is designed as a testbed for micro pulse jet engine,[1] two of which are installed under the wing, while a pair of electrically powered propeller engines are also installed under the wing on outboard pylons as auxiliary and reserve power units.[2]
