La Porteña was the first steam locomotive to circulate in the Buenos Aires City.[1] It was introduced during the government of Pastor Obligado by the Anglo-Argentine Daniel Gowland, in charge of bringing the machine from England towards the end of the 1850s.[2] It was inaugurated on August 29, 1857, covering the routes of Del Parque railway station to the town of Floresta.[3]
