SGCC UAVs are Chinese UAVs developed by State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and have entered service in China for aerial overhead power line inspection. Due to the huge geographical and meteorological diversity among different areas in China, there is not a single UAV that can satisfactorily perform the job to perfectly meet every local environment. As a result, SGCC has to develop a wide range of UAVs so that each unique local requirement is met by a particular UAV.

GSEP Hexacopter

GESP hexacopter is a hexarotor developed by the State Grid Gansu Electric Power Co., Ltd. (GSEP, 国网甘肃省电力公司)[1] (GSEP) for aerial inspection of overhead power lines in the local region.[2] In addition to inspection, the hexacopter is also used to support manual repair work on the overhead power line.[3]

HuBEP Hexacopter

HuBEP hexacopter is a hexarotor developed by Wuhan Power Supply Company (武汉市供电公司). division of State Grid Hubei Electric Power Co., Ltd. (HuBEP, 国网湖北省电力公司),[4] a wholly owned subsidiary of SGCC, to perform aerial inspection of overhead power line in the local area. The general designer of this hexacopter is Mr. Liu Gang (刘刚, 1980 —). In comparison to 300,000 to 800,000 ¥ price tag of imported UAV of the similar design, the indigenously developed hexacopter is equally capable but only cost several thousand ¥.[5]

HuBEP Octocotper

HuBEP octocopter is the development of earlier HuBEP hexacopter, and it is intended to perform all the tasks the earlier hexacopter can perform with Mr. Liu Gang remains as the general designer. Additionally, the octocopter can also carrying greater payload and equipped with simple tools to perform basic maintenance work.[6]

JBEP Fixed-wing UAV

JBEP fixed-wing UAV is a fixed-wing UAV developed by State Grid Jibei Electric Power Co., Ltd. (JBEP, 国网冀北电力有限公司),[7] a wholly owned subsidiary of SGCC in Hebei. It is an electrically powered UAV. Specification:[8]

JBEP Hexacopter

JBEP hexacopter is a hexarotor developed by JBEP and it is used in conjunction with the fixed-wing UAV to perform aerial inspection of overhead power lines. The using of UAV to perform the same job is three times more efficient than manual work performed.[8]

Laborer 1

Laborer (Lao-Dong-Zhe or Laodongzhe, 劳动者) 1 is a quadcopter developed by the Hengshui division of State Grid Hebei Electric Power Co., Ltd. (HeBEP, 国网河北省电力公司衡水市供电公司), [9] a wholly owned subsidiary of SGCC to specifically perform aerial overhead power line inspection in the local area, which has different environment than other part of the northern Hebei region. The general designers of Laborer 1 is Mr. Kong Zhan-Liang (孔占亮)and Mr. Yang Zhi (杨治). The quadcopter is in typical quadrotor layout with a pair of skids as landing gear. In comparison to manual work, the same tasks performed by UAV is fourteen times more efficient.[10] Specification:[10] Weight (kg): 0.7

Laborer 2

Laborer 2 is a development of Laborer 1 and it is also a quadcopter in the same layout of Laborer 1. Like its predecessor Laborer 1, Laborer 2 is also controlled by a smartphone or a laptop computer.[10] Specification:[10]

SDEP Fixed-wing UAV

SDEP Fixed-wing UAV is in conventional layout with high wing configuration tricycle landing gear. Propulsion is provided by a two-blade propeller driven tractor engine mounted in the nose. This UAV is one of the two UAVs developed by SDEPRA of SDEP of SGCC for aerial inspection of overhead powerline inspection in application in high elevation regions, as part of the Research on Application of Unmanned Patrol and Inspection of Overhead Power Lines in High Elevation Regions (高海拔地区输电线路无人巡检技术的应用研究). The project first begun in 2010 and took more than three years to complete.[11]

SDEP Parasol-wing UAV

SDEP parasol wing UAV is in conventional layout with parasol wing configuration and tricycle landing gear. Propulsion is provided by a two-blade propeller driven tractor engine mounted in the nose. This UAV is one of the two UAVs developed by SDEPRA of SDEP of SGCC for aerial inspection of overhead powerline inspection in application in high elevation regions, as part of the Research on Application of Unmanned Patrol and Inspection of Overhead Power Lines in High Elevation Regions (高海拔地区输电线路无人巡检技术的应用研究).[11]

ZD-II

ZD-II is an UAV developed by the Shandong Electric Power Research Academy (SDEPRA, 山东电力研究院)[12] of Shandong Electric Power Co., Ltd. (SDEP, 国网山东省电力公司),[13] a wholly owned subsidiary of SGCC, for aerial inspection of overhead powerline inspection. ZD-II is an unmanned helicopter in conventional helicopter layout.[14]

ZN-1

ZN-1 is an UAV developed by SDEPRA of SDEP of SGCC for aerial inspection of overhead powerline inspection. ZN-1 is an unmanned helicopter in conventional helicopter layout, and it is the first UAV developed by SDEPRA, with program first begun in 2009 with a team of eleven members.[15]

ZN-2

ZN-2 is a development of earlier ZN-1 and is currently in service. Like its predecessor ZN-1, it is also intended for aerial inspection of overhead power lines and it is developed by the same development team of ZN-1. ZN-2 is also an unmanned helicopter and when performing the same tasks previous performed manually, the eight-hour original time needed is drastically reduced to just forty minutes, thus improving efficiency by twelve times.[16]
