Summary

Description
English: The product magnesium silicide is added to 10% hydrochloric acid (HCl(aq)). A vigorous reaction occurs followed by a series of pops due to self-ignition of the generated gaseous products. There are many parallel reactions. The simplest one could be described by the equation:
Mg2Si(s) + HCl(aq) = MgCl2(aq) + SiH4(g).
Planned and performed by Marina Stojanovska, Miha Bukleski and Vladimir Petruševski, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
