English: Lands (provinces), fortresses, roads and ethnic groups in Estonia and Northern Latvia in ca 1050-1225. Colored areas mark approximate area of lands, grey are between them mark sparsely or non-populated areas. Black dots mark fortresses, smaller black dots uncertain, unfinished, seasonal or short-term fortresses. All fortresses on map were not in use at the same time. Dotted lines mark ancient roads, smaller grey dotted lines marks modern state borders. Estonian area was populated by Estonian ethnic group, unless there, where marked differently.
