0:25 clip from Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra demonstrating timpani pedaling.
Recording: Chandos, 1991, Neeme Järvi, Royal Scottish Orchestra
This audio clip, Bartók - Concerto for Orchestra (clip).ogg, is being linked here; though the recording is subject to copyright I (– flamurai (t)) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- it is an excerpt of a longer work;
- it is used to illustrate the sound of the instruments;
- it is used to illustrate a concept specifically mentioned in the text (timpani pedaling);
- a free recording of high enough fidelity and performance quality to appropriately illustrate the sound of the instruments in this work could not be found.
I believe this file is fair use in the article Concerto for Orchestra (Bartók) because it demonstrates the sound of the work, it cannot be sold commercially to violate the original copyrights, and it cannot be replaced with a free version. The same is true for its use in Béla Bartók. Graham87 02:09, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

- the sample is being used for commentary on the recording in question;
- the sample contributes significantly to the encyclopedia articles in which it is used (listed under the heading "File usage" below) in a way that cannot be duplicated by other forms of media;
- the sample is short in relation to the duration of the recorded track, and is of inferior quality to the original recording;
- no other samples from the same track are currently used in Wikipedia;
- there is no adequate free alternative available.
A more detailed fair use rationale should be provided by the user who uploaded this sample.
