Summary

Description
English: Alloteuthis subulata, the European common squid, was filmed during fisheries fieldworks in North Sea, onboard research vessel Walther Herwig III. Observe the magic of chromatophores: a pigment-containing and light-reflecting cells that can rapidly change colour. Chromatophores expand and contract on command (electical stimulation) using specific muscles in order to help the animal blend in with its surroundings, or to communicate with other animals.
