Summary
DescriptionPachycrocuta size comparison.svg
English: Size comparison of two individuals of the giant hyena Pachycrocuta brevirostris compared to humans. Scale is based on scaling the silhouette to a skeletal diagram by Mauricio Anton found in https://chasingsabretooths.wordpress.com/2016/01/28/pachycrocuta-giant-destroyer-of-carcasses-and-more/ , with this diagram correctly scaled using radius measurements given in "The giant hyaena, Pachycrocuta brevirostris (Mammalia, Carnivora, Hyaenidae)" by Alan Turner , Mauricio Antón published in Geobios in 1996. These measurements are a 24.3 cm length for the C/C.1331 individual from Zhoukoudian, and 26.6 cm for an isolated radius found at Sainzelle, France. Both these sources were used as references for constructing the silhouette.
