DescriptionPaternoster Elevator at National Pensions Building 2012-Finland.webm
English: Paternoster elevator at National Pensions Building by Alvar Aalto. Helsinki, Finland
A shaft of perpetually moving "elevator" recesses carries the employees through the 6 floors of Aalto's National Pensions Building. At the ends of the shaft the elevator makes a quick horse shoe loop and continues moving in the opposite direction. There are no doors to open, no gates to slide, and the responsibility of safety lies with the user himself.
