Summary
DescriptionRot.ogv
Animation of a pH-controlled molecular rotaxane shuttle, according to Stoddart et. al. The benzo-crown ether starts complexed to the quaternary ammonium center, then upon deprotonation it moves to the bipyridyl group (which it complexes by pi-stacking interactions). Upon reprotonation of the amine, it moves back to the ammonium group.
Animation of a pH-controlled molecular shuttle as synthesized by Stoddart et. al. This animation was made for a lecture in the mid-90s, but ultimately I never used it. The start and end frames are identical, so it works well looped.
