Summary

Description
English: The planetary system with the sun and the planets known at the beginning of the 18th century: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The poster shows Cartesius' vortex theory. Fontenelle, Bernard de, Conversations on the Plurality of Worlds / By Monsieur de Fontenelle, of the Académie Française. New edition, expanded with various pieces, Paris, 1724.

The work was first published in 1686. The engraving of the solar system is the only illustration in the work.

The engraving is explained in the chapter “Que la terre est une planete qui tourne sur elle-même et autour du soleil” (That the Earth is a planet that revolves around itself and around the sun), pp. 15-56.
