The arcuate eminence is a rounded[3][4](p567) prominence[3] upon the superior surface of[3][5](p420) the petrous part of the temporal bone[3] forming the lateral part of the posterior wall of[5](p509) the middle cranial fossa.[4](p566-567)[5](p420, 509) The arcuate eminence indicates the position of the[3] underlying[4](p567)[5](p420) superior semicircular canal (anterior semicircular canal).[3][4](p567)[5](p420, 509)
The groove for the greater petrosal nerve is situated anteromedially to the arcuate eminence.[5](p509)
