The Think 20 (T20) is an engagement group of the G20 that brings together think tanks from around the world to contribute policy recommendations and advice to the G20 summit. The T20 serves as a platform for intellectual exchange and policy dialogue, aiming to provide evidence-based insights and innovative ideas to address global challenges and support the G20's agenda.
Background
The Think 20 is part of List of G20 summits was established to bridge the gap between research institutions and policymakers, enabling think tanks to contribute to the G20's decision-making process. It recognizes the importance of evidence-based policy formulation and encourages dialogue among experts from various fields.
The G20 is composed of most of the world's largest economies' finance ministries, including both industrialised and developing nations; it accounts for around 80% of gross world product (GWP),[1] 75% of international trade, two-thirds of the global population,[2] and 60% of the world's land area.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Think 20 include:
Policy recommendations: The Think 20 aims to generate policy recommendations and research papers on various global issues, aligning with the priorities of the G20 summit. These recommendations are intended to inform the G20 leaders' discussions and guide their decision-making process. Policy briefs and research papers: The T20 solicits policy briefs and research papers from think tanks worldwide. These contributions address key global challenges, such as economic growth, climate change, social inclusion, and sustainable development. Annual summit: The T20 holds an annual summit that brings together experts, policymakers, and representatives from think tanks. During the summit, participants engage in panel discussions, workshops, and presentations to exchange ideas and propose policy recommendations. Policy dialogues: The Think 20 organizes policy dialogues with policymakers to present and discuss research findings. These dialogues provide an opportunity for think tanks to directly engage with decision-makers and contribute their expertise to the G20 process.
Bhopal Declaration
The Think 20 summit held in Bhopal concluded with the adoption of the Bhopal Declaration. The declaration encapsulates the policy recommendations generated by the think tanks participating in the T20 process.
