The University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) holds the unique distinction of being the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin, as designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the lead federal agency for cancer research. It is located in Madison, Wisconsin. An integral part of both the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, it is a designated member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and a member institution of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium[1]. The UWCCC unites physicians and scientists who work together in translating discoveries from research laboratories into new treatments that benefit cancer patients; the center conducts research, provides treatment, and offers training. Originally named the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center, it was renamed in 2006 for Paul P. Carbone, the long-time director of the facility. The center employs 2,300 and treats more than 30,000 patients per year.[2]
