The main part of Nadsyannia coincides with the Eastern half of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship of Poland. Within Ukraine, a small fragment of Nadsyannia is located in the extreme west of Lviv region, northwestern parts of Sambir, Mosty and Yavoriv districts. The historical center is the city of Przemyśl. Together with Lemkivshchyna, Nadsyannia is part of the historical region of Przemyślśyna.

History

The Prissani tribe mentioned by Anonymous Bavarian Geographer in the "Description of Cities and Territories on the Northern Side of the Danube" in 844. The ancestors of Ukrainians, as the autochthonous population of Nadsyannia, have lived in the upper reaches of the San River since the formation of the first Slavic community in this area, known as the White Croats; later, after White Croats became part of Kyivan Rus, this territory became the center of residence of a separate Rurik dynasty and the Principality of Peremyshl created by them. From 1349 Nadsyannia, together with other lands of Galicia, became part of the Kingdom of Poland and the newly formed Ruthenian Voivodeship. At the end of the 17th century, after the third partition of Rzeczpospolita, it became part of the Austrian Empire, which was incorporated into the Polish state in 1921. In 1939 the eastern part of Nadsyannia was included in the USSR, but after the Second World War in 1944-1951 it was transferred to Poland, except for the extreme eastern part, which is located in the northwestern parts of Sambir, Mostyka and Yavoriv districts, Lviv region, Ukraine .

Deportation of local population

In 1945-1946, most Ukrainians from the Polish Nadsyannia were deported to the territory of the Ukrainian SSR. Then, in 1947, as a result of Operation Vistula, the Polish government forcibly relocated the remnants of Ukrainians from Nadsyannia and other lands to the north and northwest of Poland. Ukrainian families were settled separately in the ruined German estates of Olsztyn, Gdańsk, Koszalin, and Szczecin voivodships. In 1957-1958, some Ukrainians were able to return to their native lands.

Geographically, Nadsyannia includes the territory of the pre-war counties of the Lviv Voivodeship of the Second Rzeczpospolita: Yaroslavl, Przemyśl, Liskiv, Rzeszów, Sianice, Nysk, Korosne, Lancut, Lyubachiv, Dobromil and Berezów voivodeships, as well as the southern parts of Biłgoraj and Lublin voivodeships.
