Short description: Work of Tamil Vaishnava hymns
Srirangam, the temple described in the first hymn

The Amalanadhipiran (Tamil: அமலனாதிபிரான்) lit. the unblemished first lord is work of Tamil Vaishnava literature written by Tiruppan Alvar, comprising ten songs. The title of this work is a reference to the unblemished and flawless nature of Vishnu, as described by the Vishnu Purana. The work is part of the compendium of the hymns of the Alvars, known as the Naalayira Divya Prabandham.[1]

Hymns

The first hymn of this work, which begins by explaining the title of this work, is as follows:[2]

amalanaadhipiraan adiyaarkennai atpaduttha
vimalan, vinnavarkon viraiyaar pozil véngadavan,
nimalan ninmalan needhivanavan neenmadil arangatthamman, thiru-
kkamala padam vandhu yen kanninullana vokkinradhey

Unblemished that He is, the Lord is the first cause of the Universe; He is my master: He, the flawless one, has made people like me caught in the cycle of births and deaths subservient to Him. The Master that He is to nithyasooris (those who live in Paramapadham eternally) is up there in Tiruvenkata hills which are filled with fragrant gardens.

Totally free from any type of blemishes, characterised by master-servant quality in Paramapada, He is the presiding deity at Srirangam surrounded by high 'prakaras' / covered corridors. His holy lotus-feet have come to stay in my eyes, how amazing! The unsullied, supremely sovereign Lord's lotus feet are our goal. He is our Master.
