The Orthodox Archdiocese of St. Julius Island is an Eastern Orthodox jurisdiction on St. Julius Island in Lake Orta, Italy.

The archdiocese was established by the Patriarchate of Kiev on December 1, 1995. Vladyka Volodymir became the first Bishop consecrated in Western Europe by Patriarch Filaret.

The church

On December 1, 1996, the Patriarchate of Kiev established the Diocese of St. Julius Island. On December 19, 1995, Bishop Vladimir became the bishop of St. Julius Island under the Jurisdiction and the Omophorion of Patriarch Filaret.

History

On December 19, 1995, one month after the enthronization of Patriarch Filaret, Metropolitan Evloghios of Milan, along with Metropolitan VIGHILIJ Vighilu of Paris and Bishop Vassilij od Ostia, consecrated the Archimandrite Volodymir of St. Ambrose Monastery as Bishop of St. Julius Island.

In 1996, Evloghij, along with with Volodymir and Vassilij, ordained to the Episcopate Bishop Michell Laroche of Lion . On December 25, 1996 Filaret sent a letter to Evloghios telling him not to accept any American bishops under his omoforion (British island). On 23 February 1997, Filaret ceased communion with Evloghios.

After the break between Filaret and Evloghios, Volodymir chose to maintain communion with Evloghios.

On November 2, 2013, the Archdiocese of St. Julius Island and the Metropolia of Classis were established by the Holy Orthodox Synod of Milan and attached to Orthodox Archdiocese of St. Julius Island.
