The Sha'baniyah Munajat (Persian: مناجات شعبانیه) is a supplication attributed to Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first Shia Imam, used in the Sha'ban month.
Overview
The supplication was narrated by Ibn Khalawayh[1] and is mentioned by Abbas Qumi in Mafatih al-Janan, Sayyed Ibn Tawus in Eqbal al-a’mal,[1][2] and Muhammad Baqir Majlesi in Bihar al-Anwar.[3] In the Mafatih al-Janan, the Munajat is mentioned at Sha'ban month prayers section.[1] This supplication is a monologue of Ali ibn Abi Talib with his God, Allah. In the supplication, Ali emphasizes God's generosity and addresses Allah as creator and infinite.[4] Ali advised that the Du'a be recited with presence of heart.[5]
All Imams after Ali recited this Munajat, and Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin, fourth Shia Imam, invoked it every day in the Sha'ban month at sunset and also at night of 15th Sha'ban, the night of Muhammad al-Mahdi's birth.[6]
Ruhollah Khomeini believed that if someone follows Sha'baniyah Du'a and thinks about it, they will be greatly uplifted spiritually.[7]
