Introduction
A model of teaching is a plan or pattern that can be used to shape curriculum's,to design instructional materials and to guide instruction in the classroom.[1]
Importance
- To understand the society in which they live and to learn how it is structured, governed and managed.
- To grow up as an active, responsible and reflective members of society.
- To learn to respect each other's differences of opinion, lifestyle and language.
- To question and examine received ideas, institutions and practices.[2]
Types of teaching models
- Classroom Teaching - It helps to strengthen one's responsibility to oneself and others. This model has rules and structure.[3]
- Graffiti model - In this model the students are asked to given written responses to questions posed by teachers.
- Jigsaw model - This model was started originally in 1960's to facilitate racial integration. This is a co-operative learning technique that reduces racial conflict among students, improves motivation among students and increases enjoyment of learning.[4]
- Role play model - This model is used by teachers especially to help solve interpersonal problems in the classroom.[5]
