Research

DeskTime has published several studies on employee productivity based on the user data accumulated by the app.

In 2014 the company analysed the habits of the top 10% of its users in terms of productivity and found out that the most productive of them on average divide their day into 52-minūte long chunks of productive work, divided by 17-minute long breaks.[6] This study served as the basis for the 52/17 rule, which is a time management method similar to the Pomodoro Technique.

In 2017 DeskTime published a study that included the data from 65 000 employees in United States , finding that overtime work is not productive. The data from the study showed that employee productivity decreases by 11% immediately after 8 hours of work, and then keeps decreasing by further 19% for every additional hour spent at work.[7]
