Helakuru (often stylized as හෙළකුරු) is a virtual keyboard app developed by Bhasha Lanka for Android and iOS devices. It was first released on Android in 2011.[3]
Helakuru features easy searching and sharing of GIF and emoji content, a predictive typing engine suggesting the next word depending on context, and Sinhala, Tamil & English language support. Updates to the keyboard have enabled additional functionality, including GIF suggestions, options for a dark color theme or adding a personal image as the keyboard background, support for Voice typing. At the time of its launch on iOS, the keyboard only offered support for the English and Sinhala languages. In 2019 Helakuru was updated to support Tamil language also.[4]
In June 2021, Helakuru passed 10 million installations on the Google Play Store,[5] making it one of the most popular Android apps.[1]
Available Platforms
Helakuru was first released on Android in 2011[3] and in 2015 it was released on App Store also. In July 2020, Helakuru was released on Huawei AppGallery to provide its service to Huawei Mobile phones.[6][7]
Achievements
In March 2019, eChannelling, the largest Doctor Channeling Network in Sri Lanka has joined with Helakuru.[8] In August 2019, Helakuru and SLTMobitel entered into an agreement to promote digital lifestyles of Sri Lankans.[9]

Helakuru has been nominated for numerous awards, including e-Swabhimani National Award 2012, National Best Quality ICT Awards 2013, The Best Local Language Product, NBQSA 2013, mbillionth Award 2014, and Sri Lanka's Most Popular App, NYDB Awards 2016; Helakuru won e-Swabhimani National Award 2012,[10][11] The Best Local Language Product, NBQSA 2013,[12] and mbillionth Award 2014.[13]
