Konfuzio is a cloud and on-premises B2B SaaS platform developed by Helm & Nagel GmbH which reads, extracts and validates information in documents with the help of OCR, NLP and Computer vision [2][3].

Konfuzio enables business users to categorize documents and extract information. Data scientists can use Konfuzio as an automated text and image labeling tool with a web interface to maintain high-quality data sets to build world-class AI, integrate their AI as containerized workloads and improve them with humans in the loop. Konfuzio supports around 70 languages and various file types, such as PDFs, Images and Office documents [4].

One of the example use cases for Konfuzio happens in the insurance industry. 1:1 Assekuranzservice AG, subsidiary of WWK Versicherungen, optimizes hundreds of third-party contracts per week on behalf of over 1,100 agents. The basis for the optimized offer relies on data from third-party contracts. Agents harvest the information via cell phone pictures of the policy or as scans in PDFs and Konfuzio automatically extracts the necessary information which was done manually before. Thanks to Konfuzio the insurance company could save 75% of processing time per transaction as well as waiting time for the customer, according to one of their executive board members Dr. Patrick Afflerbach[5]. Konfuzio is also helping customers in the banking sector to optimize their processes. One example use cases for the banks is the automation of the KYC process in the lending industry which used to be a very error-prone process due to a high manual activity. By automating this process with Konfuzio a lot of time is saved as well as reliability gets increased since all specified sources are queried for information acquisition [6]. Konfuzio is also helping the German Central Bank to analyze text documents so they can accelerate and digitize the supervision process of German banks [7].

Helm & Nagel GmbH, the developer of Konfuzio, have been awarded the Digital Champions Award 2020 for German SMEs by the Deutsche Telekom and Wirtschaftswoche in the category “Digital Processes & Organization” as well as the award for the “Best Regional Champion”.[8]
