Passbolt is an open-source password manager developed for team collaboration, emphasizing secure credential sharing.[1][2]

Passbolt clients are available as browser extensions for web browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and provides a Windows desktop application as well as iOS & Android mobile applications. Passbolt uses OpenPGP[3] for public key cryptography, offers multilingual support and is licensed under AGPL-3.0. Passbolt offers a European cloud-hosted[4] service as well as the ability to self-host.[5]

Passbolt first version was released in April 2016.[6] In October 2016, Passbolt was selected among 200 startups to be part of the Luxembourgish national acceleration program Fit4Start.[7] Passbolt development is managed by Passbolt Societe Anonyme, a company incorporated in Luxembourg in November 2016.[8] In December 2018, Passbolt closed a round of funding led by ‘Digital Tech Fund’, Luxembourg national fund for innovation.[9]

Source code

The source code for the browser extensions, the Windows desktop application as well as iOS & Android mobile applications are available under the GNU Affero General Public License on GitHub.[10]

Since February 2021, Passbolt code has been audited by Cure53, an information security service provider.[11] [12] To date, nine audit reports have been made publicly available.[13] Since 2021, Passbolt successfully completed an annual SOC 2 Type II audit.[14]
