Introduction

Waterfalls are miracles of the nature which is commonly formed as water flows over a vertical drop or a series of drops in the course of a stream or river. There are amazing waterfalls in the Republic of Azerbaijan which is characterized by unique geographical area. Waterfalls in the northern regions of Azerbaijan usually freeze in winter.[1][2]

Laza, Gusar

Laza waterfall is the most popular waterfall in the village of Laza in Gusar, which is located in the northeast of Caucasus Mountains, at the bottom of a high mountainous plateau “Shah yaylag” of the highest alps Shahdag with height 4242 m above sea level. In winter climbing competitions are held at the frozen waterfalls here.

Afurdja, Guba

The other popular waterfall in Azerbaijan is Afurdja. High about 75 m, Afurdja is located in Guba, one of the picturesque regions of Azerbaijan. The waterfall has been included in the list of natural monuments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is protected by the state.

Mychig , Gabala

Mychig waterfall is located in Qabala District. It takes its source from snow and rain waters in Gotur mountain and falls into Demiraparan River. High about 96 m, Mychig waterfall is the highest waterfall in Azerbaijan.

Yeddi gozal, Gabala

"Yeddi gozal" waterfall is located 4 km far from the center of Gabala city, in the settlement of Vendam of Gabala district. Locating on the edge of Oguz-Gabala highway Yeddi gozal waterfall is a beautiful natural landscape.

Tekdam, Yardimli

Waterfalls in the villages of Peshteser and Ostayir of Yardimli district are popular in Azerbaijan too. Tekdam waterfall which is located in the district attracts the attention of the tourists. High about 34 m, Tekdam is the "calling card" of Yardimli district.

Ilisu, Gakh

İlisu waterfall with height of 25m is located in Gakh district. One should walk at least half an hour to access the waterfall.

Katekhchay, Balaken

Katekh waterfall with 20 meters high is one of the biggest waterfalls of Azerbaijan which is located in Balaken district.


Waterfalls in Ismayilli district are Galajiq, Burovdal, Chaygovushan, Istisu, Pirbenovshe, and Medrese.
