In astronomy, the morning width or rise width is the horizontal angular distance between the rise azimuth of a celestial body and the East direction.[1][2] Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī, an 8th and 9th century Islamic scholar, wrote the text Ma‘rifatsa‘at al-mashriqfīkullbalad on determing the morning width.[3]
