Platycephalus speculator, the southern bluespotted flathead, southern flathead or yank flathead, is a common species of flathead found around the southern coast and offshore islands of Australia growing to 90 cm[1] and inhabiting a depth of from 0 to 30 metres. [2]
It is a large brown or grey fish, growing to at least 90 centimetres (35 in) and 8 kilograms (18 lb).[3] It has a paler bottom and small scattered blue spots, and 3-5 large round dark spots on its tail.
