Hemicyon barbouri is a species of hemicyonine or dog bear (half dog). H. barbouri lived in south dakota 13.6 to 10.3 million years ago in the Miocene. The species' ecology was a scansorial insectivore.[1] Hemicyon barbouri was discovered by Colbert in 1941.
Description
Hemicyon barbouri has a very heavy mandibular ramus, vertical symphysis at a 65° angle, large masseteric fossa and correspondingly small premasseteric fossa. Hemicyon barbouri has small cheek teeth and a heavy snout canine. The skull dolichocephalic was 40 cm in length and had revtively small teeth. The lower carnassial length range is around 29.5 to 37.4 mm.[2]
