b1gMail is an e-mail system developed mainly in PHP. In contrast to other webmailers, b1gMail is designed to offer visitors e-mail address. b1gMail comes with own storage system and can also run on a web space with PHP and MySQL. The source code has been freely available under the GPLv2 license since 2022.

b1gMail has a wide range of functions, such as multilingualism, sending email attachments, full support for MIME and HTML message formats, calendar, to-do list, SMS support, extensive filter rules and a built-in spam filter. The functional scope of b1gMail can also be extended with plug-ins.

b1gMail supports following Receiving methods:

  • POP3-Catchall Mailbox
  • Pipe / Transportmap (Integration on other MTAs, example Postfix)
  • b1gMailServer

b1gMailServer

b1gMailServer is an add-on for b1gMail and provides a POP3, IMAP and SMTP server. It can also be used as an MTA. b1gMailServer is written in C/C++. Since 2023, the source code has been published for the first time and the license has been changed to GPLv2.[1]

History

The project started in year 2002.[2] There was a Lite and a Pro version, but these were combined into one version shortly afterwards.[3]

With the release of Version 6, B1G Software ended the free release of b1gMail.[4] In 2019, B1G Software discontinued b1gMail.[5] B1G Software announced that it would place b1gMail under an open license. This was completed in 2023.

b1gMail 6 had an experimental monitoring function in accordance with the German Telekommunikations-Überwachungsverordnung.[6] It was removed with the release of version 7.
