Dgraph is a graph database management system developed by Dgraph Labs. It is described by its developers as an open-source, low latency, high throughput, native, and distributed graph database. It is fully implemented in Go.[6][7] Dgraph uses Raft for shard replication and a custom transactional protocol for snapshot-isolated cross-shard transactions.[8][9][10]

History

The first version of Dgraph v0.1 was released in December 2015, and the first production-ready major release with v1.0.0 in December 2017.[1][11]

In May 2016, Dgraph raised $1.1M Seed funding from Bain Capital, Blackbird Group, Mike Cannon-Brookes, and Mark Cummins ventures.[12][13][14]

In December 2017, Dgraph raised $1.85M Seed funding from Bain Capital, Blackbird Group, Mike Cannon-Brookes, and AirTree ventures.[15][16]

In July 2019, Dgraph secured $11.5M Series A Funding led by Redpoint Ventures, with participation from previous backers Bain Capital, Blackbird Group, and Mike Cannon-Brookes, and AirTree Ventures.[17][18][19][20][21]

Query Language

The query language of Dgraph, GraphQL+-, is a variation of GraphQL by Facebook. Since GraphQL wasn't developed for Graph databases, Dgraph added and removed features to the language to better support graph operations.[22]

Starting from version 20.03.0, Dgraph natively supports GraphQL.[23]

Dgraph Labs

Dgraph is developed by Dgraph Labs, based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Bangalore.[1] Dgraph’s board of directors includes Xoogler Manish Jain (Founder/CEO of Dgraph), Salil Deshpande (Partner at Bain Capital), and Satish Dharmaraj (Partner at Redpoint Ventures).[24]

Dgraph Labs is part of the joint development collaboration under GraphQL Foundation.[25]
