Tmetolophota propria is a moth of the family Noctuidae.[1] It was described by Francis Walker in 1856.[2] It is endemic to New Zealand,[1] where it is very common and widespread in montane to alpine grassland areas.[3] In 2019 lepidopterist Robert J. B. Hoare undertook a major review of New Zealand noctuids. Hoare, having inspected the type material of this species, placed it within the genus Ichneutica.[4]
The larvae feed on endemic and adventive grasses.[5]
