White eggplant (Solanum ovigerum) is a species of nightshade that is grown as an ornamental plant.[1] It is a variation of the common eggplant. It is white and round in appearance and when ripe, turns slightly yellow. [2] It is also commonly known as the easter egg eggplant. There has been little research done on this species of eggplant.
Description
The plant fruit grows low to the ground. It has green stems and leaves, but sometimes can resemble a slight purple color, which bear white spines. The leaves have wavy edges and before the fruit appears, the plant produces small blue flowers. The eggplant itself resemble a white egg when immature, but when ripe it turns yellow.[3] This eggplant is not to be eaten and is only grown for ornamental purposes.
History
This plant was discovered by Michel Félix Dunal, a French botanist who focused on pteridophytes, mycology, algae, and spermatophytes [4]
