Extraradical hyphae are the hyphae that live outside of the roots of the host or partner plant.
Extraradical hyphae branch in a dichotomous manner.
Characteristics
- Thick and wavy
- Fusion between strands has been observed
- Don't usually differentiate into rhizomorphs (multi-hyphal strands)
- Exist at a density of 1–25 meters per gram of soil
