Extraradical hyphae are the hyphae that live outside of the roots of the host or partner plant.

Extraradical hyphae branch in a dichotomous manner.

Characteristics

  • Thick and wavy
  • Fusion between strands has been observed
  • Don't usually differentiate into rhizomorphs (multi-hyphal strands)
  • Exist at a density of 1–25 meters per gram of soil
