Aion is a Chinese electric car sub-brand by Guangzhou Automobile Corporation founded in 2018 to compete in the fast-growing China electric car startup company market.

Overview

Aion is an electric car sub-brand by GAC Group's New Energy division for electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid cars sold under the Aion and Trumpchi brands. Aion was founded in 2018 and was shown to the public in November with the reveal of the Aion S at Auto Guangzhou.

Aion and Trumpchi's EVs and hybrids share both the GAC 'G logo' on a blue background and are both sold under the GAC New Energy sub-brand. The electric Trumpchi models won't be sold under the Aion brand as Aion is for original electric cars that are more luxurious and could compete against Tesla.

Partnership with NIO

In May 2019, GAC and NIO announced they would form a joint venture electric vehicle brand called Hycan.

Hycan later revealed an unnamed electric SUV concept which was essentially an Aion LX with a different front, rear, and wheels.[5]
