DankPods is the channel name of Australian tech YouTuber Wade Nixon who lives in Adelaide, Australia. He does specials known as "Cashies Runs". He reviews electronic devices, such as headphones, MP3 players, iPods,[1] and phones.[2] The channel has 1.7 million subscribers and formerly had a Patreon page until it was closed down by Nixon in 2024. Prior to its closure, Nixon was being paid over $20,000 per month by his Patrons.[3][4][5]
History
Before DankPods, Nixon was raised in Adelaide, Australia,[6] Nixon has a professional life around music; he was a drummer by trade and studied Jazz Philosophy in college.[4]
Content
Nixon's content centers on old technology and the associated nostalgia[6] for items such as MP3 players.[4] He also modifies iPods, he also makes content on doing "Cashies Runs" and calls his devices such as his laptop full of bloatware from CDs with his previous MP3 videos his "Nuggets"[7] adding features such as several terabytes of storage,[8] or replacing the hard drive with an solid-state drive (SSD).[9]
He also usually breaks the devices by the end of the episode by smashing them with a rock with “1 GRIT” written on it with dry erase marker. He repeatedly blows up headphones by playing the song "Scarlet Fire" through a high power audio amplifier.[10]
Frank, his pet Murray Darling carpet python, appears after each of his videos.[11]
Nixon has also created various spin-off channels, such as Garbage Time (a car channel) [1], The Drum Thing (a channel focused on drums) [2], Borkus Time (a gaming channel) [3] and Dankmus (a channel where music is made using content from The Simpsons) [4]
