Komal Mangtani is an Indian American Internet technology engineer and head of business intelligence at Uber.[1] She joined Uber from Box where she was VP of Engineering. She previously worked at VMware where she conceptualized and led development of products that are now part of vCloud Automation Center. Mangtani is also active in promoting women in technology and she served as an advisory board member of Women Who Code.[2][3][4] She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from DDIT, Nadiad, India and executive MBA from UC Berkeley College of Engineering.[5]Business Insider named her as one of most powerful female engineers of 2017.[1]

Early life and career

Mangtani was born in India and grew up in a socially conservative culture. In India in early nineties, computers were not easily available and people must had to pay by the hour for computer time. So she started writing software programs on paper, and then she would run them at a local computer center. That experience inspired her to study computer science. She convinced her parents and earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from DDIT, Nadiad. Mangtani began working in software development in the United States in the early 2000s.[2] While working at VMware, she conceptualized and led development of products that are now part of vCloud Automation Center. In 2013, she hold a position of VP Engineering at Box. As of 2018, she is the Head of Business Intelligence at Uber.[4] She also serves on the board of Women Who Code, and is leading a partnership with Girls Who Code to expand Girls Who Code Clubs programs and increase girls’ awareness of and access to computer science.[2]
