Biography:Valentin Popov (physicist)
Valentin L. Popov is a Russian Honorary Professor of theoretical physics at the Technical University of Berlin.
Education and career
Valentin Popov obtained Ph.D. in physics from the Moscow State University. Following graduation, he worked at the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was invited as professor of physics at the Paderborn University and since 2002 heads the Department of System Dynamics and Friction Physics at the Institute of Mechanics of the Technical University of Berlin.[1]
Editorial work and memberships
Since 1998, Popov serves as a member of editorial board of the Physical Mesomechanics[2] and Friction.[3]
Since 1998, Popov is a member of the German Tribology Society and since 2008 serves on its consulting board. In 2013, the scientific council of Tomsk Polytechnic University had named him an Honorary Professor.[1]
In 2014, Popov became a member of the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science.[4]
