Cryptogrammaceae is a small family of ferns, which appears to be somewhat isolated from the rest of the Pteridales. This family forms a natural clade that is the most basal to the order.[1] Of these, Llavea is the most basal within the clade.
Based on phylogenetic research, Smith et al. (2006)[2] included Cryptogrammaceae as part of the family Pteridaceae and Christenhusz et al. (2011)[3] listed its three genera in Cryptogrammoideae S.Linds. 2009, one of five subfamilies of Pteridaceae.
