Cynarctoides emryi is an extinct species of Cynarctoides, belonging to the subfamily Borophaginae and tribe Phlaocyonini, a canid which inhabited most of west central North America from the Miocene epoch (Hemingfordian stage) living 23.0–5.3 mya and existed for approximately 17.7 million years.
Taxonomy
Cynarctoides emryi was named by Xiaoming Wang et al. (1999). It was discovered at the Hemingford Quarry 7B site, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the Runningwater Formation.
Morphology
Body mass
Two specimens were examined by Legendre and Roth for body mass.[1]
- Specimen 1 was estimated to weigh 1.29 kg (2.8 lb).
- Specimen 2 was estimated to weigh 1.36 kg (3.0 lb).
