Hydrangea kawakamii is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangeaceae endemic to Taiwan. It is a deciduous climbing shrub that blooms with long lasting lacecap lavender and white flowers starting in July and lasting until fall. It occurs in dense forests at elevations of 2,200–2,300 m (7,200–7,500 ft) above sea level. It might be conspecific with Hydrangea aspera,[1] and the Flora of Taiwan treats it as a synonym of that species.[2]
It reaches an ultimate height of 10 feet tall and wide and is known to grow in USDA zones 6a - 9b when provided average garden soil and regular water, with at least some shade.[3]
