Biology:Hypolestidae
From HandWiki
Hypolestidae is a family of damselflies in the order Odonata.[1] There are at least four genera and about six described species in Hypolestidae.[1][2][3]
Genera
The following genera are currently placed in Hypolestidae:[1][4]
- Hypolestes Gundlach, 1888
- † Anglohypolestes Nel & Fleck, 2014
- † Eohypolestes Nel & Fleck, 2014
- † Prohypolestes Nel & Paichele, 1994
Taxonomic history
The group was introduced as Hypolestinae in Fraser's 1938 publication of an unfinished manuscript by Robin Tillyard.[5] In the preface, Fraser explained that the work had been left incomplete by Tillyard's death in 1937 and was published with editorial notes and additions by Fraser.[5] Although later recognised as the family Hypolestidae, the classification was derived from Tillyard's final unpublished studies of damselfly relationships.[5][3]
