The megabat subfamily Macroglossinae is a small group comprising only four genera. The name "Macroglossinae" also happens to be preoccupied by a subfamily within the moth family Sphingidae, a violation of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature which the taxonomic community has yet to rectify by selecting a new name for the bat lineage.[citation needed] Species within this subfamily are:
