Rytidosperma nigricans is a species of true grass in the subfamily Danthonioideae.[1][2] It is endemic to New Zealand and was described as Danthonia semiannularis var. nigricans in 1963 by Russian-New Zealand botanist Donald Petrie.[3]

Rytidosperma: 'wrinkled seed' from the Greek 'rhytidos' = wrinkled and 'sperma' = seed[4]
